Why You Should Never Ignore the Power of Idleness, Daydreaming and Leisure!
Our minds have two main modes of operation, one requiring focused attention and operating in sequence. It deals with one thing at a time and will connect things together into logical, timed sequential narrative strings of pearls. The other mode is happening in the background, it doesn’t require focused attention and operates in parallel, meaning that it processes many things all at the same time and thinks in broad patterns. This mode is always in the present tense, it doesn’t do time and sequence. It is capable of processing many questions all at the same time, with its operation hidden from view.
The first requires focused attention and the latter requires daydreaming, dreaming, idleness and leisure to access its power. We drop out of sequential logical mode into a world from which myth and archetypes emerge. I call it dropping into our underworld.
Idling, daydreaming, dreaming and leisure allow us to access a power that we too often underestimate.
